Carb/muffler tinkering will probably get you that extra power up at highway speed.
I go with 20-50 motorcycle oil.... a couple bucks more but I try to take care of "the Piglet."
BTW, have you ever ridden a Harley? If not, ride before you buy: it is a very different feel. I used to be planning to move up to a Softail in a couple years, but now I'm not so sure.... I haven't ridden one (yet), but I've sat on an Indian and found it much more comfortable than any Harley I've tried.
Besides, I like the Piglet. Welcome to the family.
